Makow Associates Architect Inc. has been creating unique custom residential spaces since 1984. We have designed custom cottages, boathouses and second homes throughout Ontario Cottage Country, all tailored to our customers lifestyle and budget. The design philosophy of the firm holds that well-executed architecture evolves first from understanding the client’s needs, and from communication between the architect and Homeowner. From the understanding that develops, our first step is to design a layout, unique for your site, which considers both interior and exterior space. Thought out our practice, the interaction of interior, building, and site guides the development of the design, a focus which is particularly important when it comes to the design of your dream cottage retreat. In the layout we develop with you, spaces flow naturally from one to another and function to satisfy your families’ lifestyle.

Building a cottage for yourself and your family is a major undertaking, and Makow Architects has been guiding its clients through the process for over thirty years. We design the homes of our client’s dreams by making the most of the potential of their site through the zoning, Committee of Adjustment, and permit process, developing complete ‘for construction’ drawings that reliably describe the project for builders, and by closely following the work of the contractor to ensure a smooth process. The development of landscape and interior spaces is central to our design process, ensuring that the architecture fits the interior space, and that the interior spaces will meet expectations. We can work closely with your interior designer, and also offer incomparable in-house interior design.
Makow Architects’ houses and cottages have been recognized by the awards programs of the International Property Awards, the OAA, the Toronto Home Builder’s Association, Ontario Home Builder’s Association and the Canadian Home Builder’s Association. While specializing in work in Toronto and the GTA, we have also designed homes and vacation properties throughout Ontario and Quebec, United States, the Bahamas, the U.S. Virgin Islands, and Israel.
